Throughout his career, professional mixed martial artist “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler has relied on his signature, explosive style to defeat some of the toughest fighters in his weight class. Now, after paying his dues in a number of high-profile fighting leagues, he is the proud Middleweight Champion of EliteXC.

At 25, Lawler is already a veteran of the sport. The San Diego, Calif. native, born Robert Glen Lawler, began training at age 16 under the guidance of legendary fighter Pat Miletich. With seven years of professional experience under his belt (including appearances in the UFC, PRIDE and IFL), Lawler has consistently kept spectators on their toes with his aggressive standup game. Notable fights include a first-round KO by flying knee over Joey Villasenor (PRIDE 32, October 2006) and a KO victory over veteran Frank Trigg (Icon Sport, March 2007).

A third-round TKO victory over Murilo Rua at September 2007’s EliteXC championship marks his biggest achievement to date.

After amicably parting with his longtime training camp, Miletich Fighting Systems in Davenport, IA, Lawler recently helped establish H.I.T. Squad gym with longtime friend (and former UFC welterweight champion) Matt Hughes. The training center, located in Granite, Ill., is where he'll work to keep his title.
